Power outage closes several Chilliwack schools

Of those were Sardis elementary, Vedder elementary, Tyson elementary, Evans elementary, Unsworth elementary, Yarrow elementary, Cultus Lake elementary, Watson elementary, Vedder middle, Chance Alternate, and Sto:lo Alternate.

When a major fire erupted around 9:30 a.m. Friday at the BC Hydro Atchelitz substation on Lickman Road several areas throughout the city were left without power.School district officials notified the media through email of the closures at 12:55 p.m.

The decision to close the schools was made after the district was informed power would not be returned to several sites until after 4:30 p.m.

As well, some students taking provincial exams at Sardis secondary, which was also without power, were bused to Rosedale middle.
