Power was out for nearly 5,000 customers in Sardis Saturday morning after a hydro pole was damaged in a vehicle crash on Vedder Road.

Traffic was being rerouted around the accident scene, creating delays on Watson and Tyson Roads.

The area affected stretched from Vedder Road east, and included almost all of Promontory.

Power had been restored to much of the area by 11:30 a.m., however BC Hydro says the 350 customers in the Vedder and South Sumas area may not see their power back on until 6 p.m.

There is no word on injuries from the accident.
