Police looking for driver in cyclist accident

Police are looking for a driver who hit a 17-year-old boy on a bike early Wednesday morning at Chilliwack Central Road and Broadway Avenue.

Chilliwack RCMP are looking for a driver who hit a 17-year-old boy on a bike early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Chilliwack Central Road and Broadway Avenue.

Police are not considering charges against the driver at this time as it appears he or she stopped and helped the boy.

Police are also looking for anyone who may have witnessed the 7 a.m. accident.

The boy told police he was crossing through the intersection on a yellow light, and the next thing he knew, he was on the ground with about four people standing around him.

The boy said the people asked if we was okay, and then left the scene.

The boy was taken to Chilliwack General Hospital by his mother.

Police said he sustained a concussion and is currently at home recovering.

"Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet which was likely a huge factor (in) why he didn't sustain a more serious injury," said RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth.

"At this point, investigators are trying to determine what exactly  happened," she said. "We are hoping that someone who may have stopped or witnessed this incident will call us to provide more details."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or is able to provide any other information is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
