The spring rainy season came back with a vengeance over the weekend in Chilliwack.

It appears the "monsoon" season has returned, after experiencing a couple of dry weeks, said Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.

Chilliwack broke its rainfall record on May 21 with 40.2 mm of the wet stuff recorded, most of it falling overnight.

The previous record for that date was 23.1 mm set back in 1943, said Pannett.

To date, the total rainfall for May is 54.8 mm, with the 30-year average at 98.3 mm.
