High water on the Fraser River in June has caused a delay in the construction of the Island 22 Bike Park.
River water levels remain "unusually high for this time of year," George Murray, Fraser Valley Regional District CEO, said in a news release.
And although the seepage through dikes has stopped, the construction company had to move on to other clients in Alberta, he said.
Construction is expected to resume in early September "or as soon as the water table drops enough to allow heavy equipment to work on the site without damaging the surface."
No extra costs are expected because of the delay.
Construction of the bike park began in February.
Wooden jump structures and a perimeter trail have not been damaged by the high water, Murray said.
"The jumps are expected to withstand similar high water events in the future," he said.
The bike park is a joint project by the FVRD and the City of Chilliwack, which is paying $200,000 for design and construction. The FVRD is paying $10,000 annually for maintenance and supervision.
