A two-storey home in Chilliwack was gutted by fire Monday afternoon.

Flames and thick black smoke were already billowing from the structure as firefighters arrived.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. on Westview Avenue, a quiet residential street just off Ashwell Road.

“Due to the volume of fire and smoke present, fire crews initiated a defensive attack on the fire and were able to successfully knock down the fire and protect nearby homes,” the Chilliwack Fire Department said in a release.

“No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation by fire department officials.”

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported
