The evacuation order for three properties at Carey Point in Chilliwack is being lifted.

It was issued by city officials a week ago when freshet waters started spilling into the unprotected floodplain, affecting more than 40 properties.

"All residents on properties located outside the protected dyke area remain on Evacuation Alert and must be prepared to evacuate at short notice if required," said the city spokesperson.

The BC River Forecast Centre’s high stream flow advisory for the lower Fraser River remains in effect and the riverbanks are still considered "very unstable" and therefore pose a risk to the public.

"Please protect your personal safety and continue to avoid these areas."

Once the latest pulse of water coming down the river has passed, levels are expected to recede towards the end of the weekend, and into next week. As long as there is no severe rain or hot weather, levels should continue dropping for the rest of freshet season.

Road closures still in effect include Ballam Road east of Kitchen Road, and east of McDonald/west of McSween, and McSween Rd (Peg Leg) north of Ballam Road, and Gill Road closed at dyke due to flooding.

A partial road closure is still in effect for Young Road near Tower Road with one lane open.
