Advance poll numbers slip in Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon
Voters across Canada are either eager to voice their political preference, or they've got other plans for the May 2 election day, according to preliminary advance poll numbers released Tuesday.
More than two million voted in advance election polls, a 34.5 per cent increase over the 1.5 million who voted early in 2008.
But in the Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon riding, the estimated advance poll numbers slipped a little to 3,808 compared to the 4,497 in October, 2008.
Susan Friend, Elections Canada spokesperson in B.C., said the estimated voter turnout at the Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon polling stations was "extremely heavy" on Friday and "slow but steady" on Saturday.
Monday was the "heaviest day" of all, she said.
Nationally, those two days were "the two busiest days of advance voting ever" as about 676,000 voters cast ballots on Friday and 823,000 on Monday.
The total estimated turnout at advance polls in B.C. was 243,247.
The preliminary figures are based on numbers reported by returning officers, and are not final until all the votes are counted on election day and the results validated.
