Chilliwack RCMP were on the scene at Salish Park Wednesday morning investigating after a dead body was discovered.

Police had the area taped off around the portable toilets between the library parking lot and the pond. Three police cars were on scene around 9 a.m. June 21 taking photographs and interviewing bystanders.

A body was visible near the portable toilets partially covered with a white tarp. By 9:30 a.m. the BC Coroners Service was on the scene.

A civilian told The Progress it was a case of a drug overdose, but Chilliwack RCMP were unable to confirm or deny this.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said police received a call at 7:30 a.m. to attend.

“General duty officers are on scene in the very initial stages of the investigation,” he said.

Rail was unable to confirm the age or gender of the deceased individual.
