Heavy rainfall warning issued for Chilliwack
Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the Fraser Valley including Chilliwack and Abbotsford.
The warning issued Tuesday morning says a long episode of rain is expected, which at times will be heavy.
The highest volume of rain is expected near the mountains in the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver with as much as 100 millimetres (mm) of rainfall.
The warning comes as a strong Pacific front fuelled with energy and moisture from the subtropics is expected to spread heavy rain to the inner south coast Tuesday evening.
The heavy rain should taper off Thursday morning as the front finally moves eastward out of the area.
With much of the massive recent snowfall having already melted, the threat of localized flooding is greatly reduced. Still, Chilliwack residents are asked to locate the catch basin at the curb near homes to clear of snow and ice to allow for melting and rainfall.
To confirm if you have a catch basin in front of your house, go to maps.chilliwack.com and check the "Storm" layer under the Utilities icon or call 604-792-9311 to request information about catch basin locations.
