A 22-year-old woman from Rosedale faces at least eight criminal charges for thefts and illegal use of credit cards in connection with alleged incidents in the Vedder Crossing and Promontory areas late last year.

Brianna Margaret Leanne Brown remains in custody and is next due in court Jan. 10.

The charges stem from the investigation initiated by the RCMP after police stopped a suspicious car in the 51000-block of Yale Road on Dec. 13. Brown was taken into custody after officers connected the licence plate displayed on the vehicle to the report of a theft made to police on Dec. 12 from Teskey Road.

During that investigation, RCMP Crime Reduction Unit officers then linked Brown to an alleged theft from a vehicle in the 45000-block of Market Way, reported to police on Nov. 28 and an alleged robbery in the 5900-block of Vedder Road reported to police on Dec. 1.

Brown faces three counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of use a credit card obtained by the commission of an offence and one count each of robbery, mischief and theft.

She also faces three breach charges.

Brown is known to police and was in the news in June 2015 when she failed to show up in court as the star witness against ex-Canada Post employee Candace Waller who was charged with mail theft, possession of stolen property and fraud.

Due to Brown's non-appearance, the Crown had no evidence to back up the fraud charge, and Waller was acquitted.

Brown was also charged in October 2015 with numerous offences, including mail theft, weapon possession and possession of stolen property. But in February 2016, all charges against her were dropped with one mail theft conviction for her co-accused, Kristopher Mino, resulting in a sentence of 165 days in jail.
