Man in white van sought by Chilliwack RCMP

Chilliwack RCMP are investigating a suspicious vehicle and driver who allegedly approached a Chilliwack youth after school on Tuesday.

Police say the youth was asked if he wanted a ride as he was walking down Balmoral Avenue near Vedder middle school. But the kid just kept walking until the van drove away.

The driver was described as Caucasian, with a deep voice, and greasy, brown, shaggy hair. He was driving an older white mini-van that was dented and scratched. The youth told investigators there was no window where the rear sliding door would be.

The youth did not recognize the driver, nor was he able to get a licence plate of the van, according to the police report.

"We always want to make the public aware of cases like this when children have been asked to get into a vehicle," said RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck. "We would like parents and teachers to remind kids to never get into a vehicle with someone they don't know and always tell an adult if you have been approached."

Anyone with information regarding this incident, is asked to contact Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
