Chilliwack 'most wanted' fugitive arrested

Local RCMP have arrested one of Chilliwack's "most wanted" fugitives last Friday, and will keep him in custody until his next court appearance.

34 year-old Michael Joshua Kerr was on the run during more than four months with multiple outstanding arrest warrants, which RCMP say stemmed from a 2012 breaking and entering.

In April 2012, police say they caught a suspect "red-handed" during a breaking and entering attempt. The suspect rode his bike to the Fairfield Island area, entered a residential carport, and broke into the adjoining storage room. He then proceeded to steal frozen food and meat from a freezer, as well as a carton of beer. Police arrested the suspect on site.

Michael Kerr was charged with break-and-enter and breach of probation. That time, police also kept him in custody until the next court date.

Since then, Kerr repeatedly breached his court-imposed conditions. RCMP now have him in custody again. He is scheduled for a show cause hearing on Feb. 25, 2013.

"The Chilliwack RCMP Property Crime Section has focused on locating and arresting prolific offenders as a means of reducing theft and other property offences in our community," said Constable Bryan Martell of the Crime Reduction Unit in a press release. "Property Crime jeopardizes the sense of safety and security that everyone should feel, both within their home and in their community."
