Fire damages Chilliwack home
Six people were forced from their home early Friday morning after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a house, located in the 45000 block of Spartan Crescent in Chilliwack.
No one was injured in the blaze, which started just after midnight.
When firefighters arrived at the home, smoke could be seen coming from the second floor of the two-storey wood-frame house.
Firefighters entered the home and were able to quickly control and extinguish a fire in the kitchen. The fire had extended up the wall and displaced a rear window in the home.
Fire damage was restricted to the kitchen, the fire department says, although there was smoke damage throughout the upper floor of the 40-year-old home.
The six residents – four adults and two young children – and two cats were all evacuated safely. All of the occupants were treated at Chilliwack General Hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Emergency Social Services provided accommodation to the family.
There were no firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire department officials and is not considered suspicious.
