Chilliwack crash stats driving changes to Traffic Unit
The numbers have been crunched.
Downtown Chilliwack was the area of the city with the highest incidence of vehicle crashes in 2012.
RCMP crime analyst Raman Dhaliwal recently studied the latest data on traffic collisions, and the results are driving changes for the local Traffic Unit.
For example, most collisions happened on a Friday or Saturday, between noon and four p.m.
"It does not make sense for us to be working at times when collisions are at their lowest," said Cpl. Lee Dyson of the Chilliwack Traffic Unit. "These statistics are an invaluable resource to us that we will use to guide our enforcement."
There were 420 crashes logged, with 215 including property damages, and 205 with injuries. Eight were hit-and-run incidents.
Most of the collisions causing injury were during the month of August.
The fewest number were recorded on Sundays or Thursdays.
The traffic unit will be using the data to map out shifts, and officials are asking that motorists be aware of the latest stats, and drive with due caution and consideration.
