'Targeted shooting' in Chilliwack sends one to hospital

A 31-year-old Chilliwack man is in police custody following an early morning shooting Saturday that sent one man to hospital.

Chilliwack RCMP are trying to determine if a shooting is related to gun fire two days earlier.

Just before 5 a.m. Saturday morning, RCMP were called to Ashwell Road and Wolfe Road after a 46-year-old said he had been shot.

Police located the man, and he was taken to hospital where he was treated for his wounds.

The Chilliwack man is currently in stable condition.

Police say the shooting was a targeted attack, however they say they don’t believe it is related  to any of the recent Lower Mainland gang murders.

By 1 p.m. Saturday RCMP had arrested a Chilliwack man without incident in a residential part of the city.

"The police believe this was a targeted shooting," said Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth.  "The Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Section worked diligently to apprehend the suspect."

Part of the investigation will be to determine if this incident is related to another “targeted shooting” on Dec. 20. In that case, shots were fired in the Cleveland Avenue and Fletcher Street area of Chilliwack early Thursday morning.

"There were no serious injuries," said Hollingsworth at the time.

No other details from either incident are being released as the police investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
