Progress among top three in North America
The Chilliwack Progress is among the top newspapers in North America, the LocalMedia Association announced this week.
The association, formally the Suburban Newspaper Association of North America, and representing 2,200 papers, awarded The Progress second place in its circulation class in its 2012 Newspaper of the Year contest.
The Progress finished behind the Sarasota Observer out of Sarasota, Florida.
The competition was judged by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, Missouri School of Journalism. It included four different circulation classes; The Progress, with a circulation of just under 30,000, was judged in the 22,501-37,500 category.
Of the 12 finalists, The Progress was one of only three Canadian papers to finish in the top three.
According to the judges, “The Progress is well organized and easy to follow. The coverage has a good mix of news, events and people stories. High quality color benefits a strong advertising package. Headlines are concise, clear and informative. Sports photography is especially eye-catching.”
This is not the first time The Progress has been honoured by the association. In 2008 The Progress
finished first in its class.
