Fish sale used to open doors for theft
Chilliwack RCMP are looking for a native man selling fish door-to-door, but allegedly stealing homeowners' wallets instead.
Police said two similar reports were made in a short period of time Sunday about a native man allegedly trying to sell fish door-to-door on the north side of Chilliwack.
But as the residents turned their backs, the suspect allegedly reached inside and stole wallets that were in plain view.
"After grabbing the wallets, the man fled the scene on a bicycle carrying a black duffel bag," RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said.
"We want homeowners to be aware that this has happened and to be cautious when opening your doors to strangers," she said.
"It is a real violation when crimes like this happen right under your nose, and we don't want anyone else to be victimized this way."
The suspect is described as a native man in his mid-20s with dark hair and a goatee.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
