Faster bus service in Chilliwack coming Monday along Yale/Vedder

Transit changes for Chilliwack bus riders are going into effect on Monday.

It's all part of the planned transit expansion featuring the new Yale/Vedder route with 20-minute service on weekdays.

That extra bus will add 2,500 hours to Chilliwack Transit System's annual service allotment.

The changes include a streamlining of bus routes, with 10 routes reduced to four, and brand-new service along Eagle Landing Parkway.

The old fleet of six buses will be increasing to seven.

"To better meet the needs of BC Transit riders in Chilliwack, many routes have been simplified and direct service will be offered to both campuses of the University of the Fraser Valley, Stream Global Services and Walmart," according to the press release.

BC Transit has added extra night runs until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide more frequent and convenient transit services in Chilliwack,” said Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz.

She thanked everyone who offered input and suggestions for improving service, as well as the city's transit partners like the province and BC Transit, "for listening to the needs of the Chilliwack bus ridership.”

Also If you're riding a city bus on July 2, you might even spot a "Transit Ambassador" helping people get accustomed to the new transit system changes, and handing out Riders' Guides.
