Seniors escape burning house trailer in Chilliwack
Two seniors escaped from a burning trailer residence Thursday whose main doorway was blocked by smoke and flames.
The couple managed to escape unharmed using a second exit.
But a pet dog, who alerted the couple to the fire, did not survive.
The Chilliwack fire department is reminding the public to have two ways out of a residence, and to practice home fire escape plans.
Fire crews were called to the trailer in the 5700-block Unsworth Road at about 1:55 a.m. Although the trailer was engulfed in flames, firefighters managed to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent trailers.
A cat also perished in the fire, and there was extensive fire and smoke damage to the trailer.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious.
