Arts Centre sale goes through
The Chilliwack Arts Centre on Henderson Avenue has finally been sold after being on the market for two years.
The takeover date is June 5, and the "sold" sign should be going up soon.
"It's an exciting time for us and it means we now can put our energy into other things," said Rod Hudson, executive director of the Chilliwack Community Arts Council.
Some of his duties involved booking and maintenance for the older building, which was purchased by the Arts Council in 1984 and used for various programming up to today.
"It's something we've been looking forward to for some time," he said about the sale of the building.
Arts Council offices and classroom space moved over to the Cultural Centre when it opened, and from here on in, they'll focus on their mainstays, the Bluegrass Festival, Christmas Craft Fair and Film Series.
The new owner is the Chilliwack Victory Church, which had been renting out space in a local hotel to hold church services, Hudson said.
The last show in the venue will be The Last Foxtrot, a Tractorgrease concert being organized for May 18 in the old Arts Centre.
"That will be our last show it looks like, definitely the last rock show," he said.
The sale price was not made public.
"All I can say is that it was considerably below the appraised value," Hudson added.
The property was appraised at $1.6 million.
