Chillwack council goes with the obvious in naming Sardis library
The new library on the south side of Chilliwack will be known simply as the Sardis library, after a vote by city council Tuesday.
The new library on Tyson Road will be built in 2013 and it needed a name, according to the staff report.
Sardis library was a clear preference with the public in an open house survey, along with Watson Glen Library, which a few respondents favoured.
The issue of finding a new library name was referred to the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) officials, who responded that Sardis library was their preferred option.
Some may not be aware that the downtown Chilliwack library was originally called the Salish library at first, but over time people kept referring to it as the Chilliwack library and it stuck.
