Stabbing suspect arrested, released
A 21-year-old Chilliwack man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a man out walking his dog in downtown Chilliwack last week.
Police said a tip led to the arrest of the man on Friday. He was released from custody on several conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The 43-year-old victim, who is still recovering in hospital, was stabbed at about 10:45 p.m. after asking a group of youths outside the Newmark Apartments in downtown Chilliwack to pick up litter they had thrown onto the ground.
"An altercation ensued as a result of the request, with the man being pepper-sprayed and stabbed," RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said.
"This was such a senseless crime," she said.
The victim was able to describe the male who stabbed him, and the two men and one female who were in the group.
