Car thief caught in the act
Police say a car thief was caught in the act early yesterday, thanks to a call from the pubic about a suspicious male inside the underground parking of an Edward Street apartment.
“Chilliwack RCMP general duty members responded immediately and were able to locate the male as he was leaving the parking garage area,” Const. Lea-Anne Dunlop says.
Police say the suspect tried to steal two vehicles in the garage causing damage to their steering columns.
“The suspect was apprehended in the parking garage walking away from the vehicles with a car alarm which had been stolen and a screwdriver in his hands,” Dunlop says.
The suspect was not named until formal charges of possession of stolen property and breach of probation expected in provincial court yesterday.
Police were called to the apartment in the 9200-block Edward Street at about 2:50 a.m.
