Harrison Hot Springs is about to get a little more eccentric.

Frank Zappa tribute group Zappostrophe plays on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Memorial Hall (290 Esplanade Avenue) at 7:30 p.m. This is the first show from the Harrison Festival Society this year and a part of the Season of the Performing Arts, which spans September through May.

Zappa was a one-of-a-kind composer, and the top-notch, Vancouver-based musicians paying homage to him are just as unique. Zappostrophe is Blair Fisher (trumpet, flute, vocals), Bob Caldwell (drums), Nick Apivor (mallets, percussion), Blair Lewis (guitar), Guenter Schulz (guitar), Mike Simpson (keys), L.J. Mounteney (vocals) and Brent Gubbels (bass).

Their work, like Zappa’s before them, spans multiple genres, including classical, doo-wop, rock and jazz. Zappostrophe puts their own imaginative spins based on Zappa’s wide repertoire.

Coming up next in the Season of Performing Arts, Windborne is set to perform on Friday, Feb. 2.

The Harrison Festival Society has organized the Season of Performing Arts and the iconic Harrison Festival of the arts for decades. The nine-day multicultural Festival spans multiple genres, disciplines and media and is held every July.

Tickets for both shows are available now online at harrisonfestival.com. Children age 12 and under are admitted for free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and a bar and concession will be available.
