LETTER: Chilliwack ER is a place for everyone

Consider paying for private health care if emergency room is too scary

In response to “ER a terrible place to be,” Chilliwack Progress, Feb. 16, 2024.

I am so sorry about your misfortune in Chilliwack General’s ER, Jan. 26. You saw many homeless people that were dirty, smelled, rude.

Did you stop to think they don’t have a home? No access to showers or laundry. People smell that are unable to care for themselves. Addicted, homeless or not.

Dirty boots? Homeless people do not have the luxury of owning many, if any footwear. They are on their feet 24/7. You could not find a clean washroom? There are only three that I am aware of in or near emergency.

This is a place where ill people go. Did you stop to think of a person riddled with cancer that can barely make it to the washroom, if at all? Someone that is so sick they vomit on the floor. This is a place for those of us that need medical help to go to. Every single one of us!

You were scared and felt uncomfortable. It was a terrible place to be. Go somewhere else. Maybe the “Ritz” if that is what you were seeking. You said maybe the ER could make your visit more humane. They make everyone’s visit humane. That is why everyone gets treated.

If anything, you are the one who has lost your humanity in the way you regard other’s. As far as a safe place for everyone - it is. Did you not notice security there? I would recommend you should pay direct for private service as your opinionated, judgmental attitude does not belong in a public area as this. We love CGH and find it to be a great place for any and all care we have received there.
