The Evensong Chamber Singers will be presenting two special concerts at the end of the month in celebration of their director’s 10th year with the choir.

Hans Kruger has been with Evensong for a decade, and during that time, he has lead the choir through more than 40 concerts.

“It has been a fantastic experience for me, and I would like to think that for the choir it has as well,” Kruger says.

“After all, they keep coming back for more every year. New (members) — and good ones might I add — are joining all the time.”

On April 29 and 30, the group will present two concerts featuring Bach’s well-known Motet III, along with other musical selections, readings and prayers.

The concerts will also include a professional string octet (from the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver area) and the choir will be accompanied by pianist Nita Pelletier, who has been with the choir for almost as long as Kruger.

“It is an absolute honour to work with her,” he says.

“We have lots of fun at our rehearsals and work just as hard. I don’t want anybody in my choir that doesn’t enjoy it. Come concert time we share that joy and music with our audience,” says Kruger.

Evensong will be performing its Bach concert featuring Motet III and several other pieces on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. Both concerts take place at Sardis Community Church (45625 South Sumas Rd.).

Admission is free, though donations are welcome to support the relief, development and peace work of Mennonite Central Committee.
