Sunset Boulevard musical tackled by G.W. Graham

G.W. Graham Musical Theatre presents the musical Sunset Boulevard from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1.

The cast will be accompanied by a 23-piece orchestra "to bring this haunting, lush score to life," says producer Matthew Webster.

Based on the 1950 film of the same title, the plot revolves around Norma Desmond, a former star of the silent screen era, living in the past in her decaying mansion on the fabled Sunset Boulevard. When young screenwriter Joe Gillis crosses her path, she sees her big chance to make a comeback to the big screen. Romance and tragedy ensue.

"It's a rare Andrew Lloyd Webber gem, in that it's been tied up in litigation for almost 20 years, and only now is available for amateur groups to license," Webster said. "We may very well be the first school in Canada to be performing this very challenging musical."

Sunset Boulevard, Nov. 27-Dec. 1, opens Sunday at G.W. Graham theatre, with a preview matinee at 1 p.m., and then nightly at 7:30 p.m.
