Last week, the seniors at Lynnwood Retirement Residence bid farewell to a group of kids as the little ones hopped aboard a school bus at the Salvation Army Church to head to summer camp.

It’s the fourth time the residents and staff at Lynnwood have raised money to send kids off to Camp Sunrise. On July 10, the Lynnwood hosted its fourth annual Send a Kid to Camp barbecue fundraiser, including a tasty hot dog lunch served through the Salvation Army’s emergency services vehicle.

“We are so happy to say that residents and staff at the Lynnwood retirement residence were an integral part of this,” says Marie Lashley with Lynnwood. “Through this event, and other fundraising activities over the month, we were able to raise over $5,000 and send 14 kids to camp, which is two more kids than last year.”

On July 17, residents and staff were able to go to the Salvation Army Church to see the kids off as they boarded the bus, starting a wonderful week full of adventure.

Every year Chilliwack’s Salvation Army sends more than 30 Chilliwack kids to Camp Sunrise, which offers children a unique opportunity to grow in a safe and nurturing community situated in a beautiful setting on the Sunshine Coast.

As they embrace the expansive outdoor setting and participate in activities that are both fun and challenging, young campers develop friendships with peers that will last a lifetime. Capable and caring camp counselors serve as mentors encouraging their growth emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually.
