The Chilliwack Hospice Society invites you to join them for an Annual Memorial Celebration on Nov. 29.

The memorial celebration is a chance to honour a loved one or loved ones who have died. It is a chance to sit in the company of others and reflect on the memories and love that the special people in our lives have given us. We’re coming in to the holiday season which can be both frantic and chaotic at times. The Hospice Memorial Celebration gives people a chance to slow down, even if it’s just for an evening, and simply catch their breath.

Ian Kanutski, program coordinator for the hospice society, says that grief never really leaves us. But one of the ways that we can soften it is through rituals like a memorial celebration. The sharing of memories, the telling and retelling of stories, or just sitting quietly with others who have also felt a loss can be very helpful. That’s what they hope to achieve at their annual memorial.

This year, they are going to have a guest panel – three wonderful people from our community - on stage to talk about their own personal experiences with loss as well as answer a few questions.

The evening also features a musical performance by the Chilliwack Secondary School Vocal Jazz Choir, a memory ritual, and light snacks and refreshments. There will also be a table set up to allow you to display a framed photo of your loved one, if you so desire.

Staff and volunteers of the Chilliwack Hospice Society will also be on hand to talk and offer support.

We encourage you to come out for an evening of sharing, reflecting and honouring your loved one.

Everyone is welcome to attend, on Nov. 29 at Vineyard Church, 45892 Wellington Ave. The event goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
