Frankie's Italian Kitchen joins Streetsmart

Dine out at Frankie's Italian Kitchen in Chilliwack and help end hunger

Dine out at Frankie's Italian Kitchen in Chilliwack and help to end hunger between now and Christmas.

The Chilliwack restaurant has signed up with a program called Streetsmart, where diners can add a $1 donation or more right onto their bill, which later goes to the local food bank.

The initial campaign, for the Christmas season, runs until December 24 at various locations across the Lower Mainland.

A little information card will sit atop the tables to let diners know how it works.

"Most people think about what they want to eat, not whether they will eat," reads the table card. "As you enjoy your meal at this participating Streetsmart restaurant, please think about those who rely on the support of the local food bank each year. Please give generously to this project."

Frankie's has joined several Vancouver area dining establishments, and 100 per cent of donations go directly to the local food bank in participating cities, said Raffaele Aiello, owner of Frankie's.

"The Gratitude Affect is an organization that started in the U.K. under a program called StreetSmart, endorsed by Gordon Ramsay's restaurants," he said.

It's a brand-new initiative, and it's raising awareness about local needs.

"The goal is to eliminate hunger in our communities and improve the lives of many families who turn to the food bank each year," said organizers.

Some of the participants include Lupo Italian restaurant, Brix, Provence Mediterranean Grill, Provence Marinaside and U-Lounge in White Rock, as well as Frankie’s Italian Kitchen in Vancouver and Chilliwack.
