Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF) is putting out a call to the Chilliwack Community to dust off the runners and mark their calendars for Saturday, May 13 for the 19th annual Run for Mom 5 and 10K Run/Walk event.

This family friendly fundraiser at the Canada Education Park, hosted in the UFV Lot 7 on Caen Ave, is once again supporting Chilliwack General Hospital Maternity department. Last year a much needed fetal monitor was purchased with funds raised and this year the focus is on supporting more than just mom and baby.

“Let’s support our moms by supporting their family and partners,” says Liz Harris, Foundation executive director. “Proceeds from 2017’s Run for Mom will go to provide fully reclining sleeper chairs for the Chilliwack General Hospital birthing rooms. These recliners allow supporting partners to have a comfortable and restful stay, to better support mom throughout their time in the hospital.”

The Run for Mom event is also asking the local community to make a cash donation to this event. “If you are not a runner, or can’t make the event, please consider donating online through the FVHCF website. We are low on cash donations and sponsorship this year; please help us reach our overall goal of purchasing sleeper chairs for Maternity at CGH”, says Harris.

Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation’s goal is to raise $20,000 at this year’s event but they need your help. Proceeds are dependent on the fundraising efforts of the event participants, the community as well as business sponsorships.

To support the maternity department at Chilliwack General Hospital please visit www.fvhcf.ca and use the donate button. Leave a comment that it is for Run for Mom. Links for event registration can be found on the events page.

The Foundation says they are appreciative of the support they have received from many local businesses and organizations, including The Kiwanis Sardis Club as Gold Sponsors. Kiwanis will once again be serving up a delicious pancake breakfast for runners and their supporters on the Mother’s Day weekend.
