Two years ago, at a Cadet Summer Training Course, Braden Wuensche, 14, set a goal to become a pilot. This summer, he is taking his largest step to date towards that goal by taking the Advanced Aviation Course at Comox Cadet Flying Training Center (CFTC).

Wuensche is an Air Cadet from 147 Airwolf Squadron in Chilliwack, where he is quite active. He participates enthusiastically in the squadron drill team, rifle drill team, flag party and archery team. However, the main reason he participates in cadets is for the aviation. The Advanced Aviation Course, which he is taking, is a three-week course that teaches the theoretical aspects of flight and is often taken in preparation for the Glider Pilot Scholarship.

Wuensche’s career goal is to become a pilot in the Canadian Forces, in particular, the Search and Rescue element, in which he has had a strong interest ever since he took a tour of the Search and Rescue hangar at 442 Squadron in Comox BC.

More than 3,400 Sea, Army and Air Cadets are participating in summer training activities across B.C. this summer. Other cadets have had the opportunity to travel across the country and even overseas. To find out more about the Cadet Program visit www.cadets.ca or follow them on Twitter @BC_Cadets.

The Royal Canadian Air Cadets is a federally funded organization that provides opportunities for members from ages 12-18 to participate in a variety of activities, including gliding, powered flying, effective speaking, drill and ceremonial, outdoor survival, RC aircraft, archery, range, and more.
