No excuses not to participate in Chilliwack's Terry Fox Run
Margaret Kostrzewa expects to see Chilliwack support at this year's Terry Fox Run.
There are no excuses for people not to be out Sunday morning with their running shoes laced up, the organizer of the local run said.
The weather is going to be beautiful. The route is beautiful. There's going to be a pancake breakfast.
And while Kostrzewa acknowledges there may be fundraising fatigue with the number of charity runs offered, this one, she said, should always be held close to Chilliwack's heart.
"The Terry Fox Run is our community run," she said. "Most of the [Fox] family lives in this area. Let's get out there and support them."
Kostrzewa has been supporting the cause for years, even when her own mother was in hospital battling bone cancer five years ago, she was actively running back and forth between the local events and hospital.
Her mother died Sept. 17, 2008.
"I know what people are going through," she said. "When you lose a parent, child, anyone it's difficult. That's why we need to keep the dream going.
"One of these days someone is going to find a cure."
This year is the 33rd annual Terry Fox Run.
The Chilliwack run is on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at the Landing Sports Centre on Spadina Ave..
Participants can register online at www.terryfox.org, or the day of the run beginning at 7:30 a.m.. There is no fee or minimum donation. And there are options for 10 km, 5 km or 2 km routes.
Runners, walkers, cyclists, strollers, and wheelchairs are all welcome.
The Lions Club will be hosting a pancake breakfast where for every dollar donated the club will match.
Hampton House is also hosting its annual Silver Fox Block Walk on Friday, Sept. 13 where residents will be collecting pledges and walking around Chilliwack in support of the Terry Fox Run.
