Chilliwack to say Hello, Goodbye to the old high school
The CSS Hello, Goodbye mass reunion is in the final stages of prep for the big weekend, March 1 and 2.
Total registration is sitting at about 4,500 people and still growing.
"I'm absolutely thrilled," said organizer Trevor McDonald. "We have assembled a dream-team of organizers who have put together a fantastic weekend."
Friday night events at the Coast Hotel, Echo Room and Corky's are all sold out, with a growing waiting list.
In terms of Saturday reunion events, they include guided tours of the high school, or the chance to take a self-guided tour to visit an old classroom or locker.
The front doors to the lobby open at 8 a.m. for registered guests to check-in and will close at 5 p.m.
They're expecting to see 5,000 grads, former staff and teachers that day in the hallways of the old CSS during the Saturday open house.
Guest speakers will be addressing guests all day long, with Mayor Sharon Gaetz giving the opening address on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. flanked by a range of local dignitaries.
Each decade from 1950 onward will be represented in the CSS gym by a distinct booth, complete with its own memorabilia, photo collages, and decade reps. Folk will be browsing through yearbooks and pawing trophies from days gone by.
There will be live entertainment all day long in the gym, as well as video projecting scenes from past, present and future. One of the featured performers is former CSS grad Bria Skonberg, now based in New York City.
Breakfast and lunch events, which came with early registration, are sold out, but food vendors will be on the school grounds.
As of Wednesday, there were a few tickets left for a Now-and-Then bus tour of Chilliwack, guided by Chilliwack Museum director Ron Denman. The half-hour excursion will visit notable downtown landmarks, past and present.
The Saturday night dance has about 100 tickets remaining out of 1,500 available spaces.
Tickets, registration and other details are available on the website, at hellogoodbye.ca, but keep in mind there is no pay-at-the-door option for any of the events. Contact organizers at the website to volunteer for the weekend events.
"Print the tickets and have them with you for all events as you won't get in without them."
