Chilliwack's Father's Day Walk for Prostate Cancer a success
The weather may not have been perfect, but the run was.
Chilliwack's first ever Father's Day Walk Run for Prostate Cancer on Sunday raised close to $12,000 with 81 walkers and runners participating.
And while the day was rife with downpours, the heavier rain held off through the duration of the 5 km event, only starting up again when nearly all runners were back at the ASU enjoying a hot pancake breakfast prepared by the Mt. Cheam Lion's Club.
Dale Erikson, chairman of the Chilliwack chapter of the Prostate Cancer Canada Network and organizer of the walk, is already looking ahead to next year.
It would be pretty hard not to hold another one given all the community support the inaugural event received, said Erikson.
Province wide the event raised over $170,000 – which will go towards raising awareness about prostate cancer and funding research into treatments and a cure for the common disease.
In Canada, one out of seven men will be affected by prostate cancer in their lifetime, and every day 12 men in B.C. are diagnosed.
