Food bank needs help
Chilliwack Food Bank reserves are dipping to critically low levels.
“We are experiencing an urgent need for food and funds at the moment,” said Ian Pratt, community ministries director for Chilliwack Salvation Army.
They have an abundance of soup on the shelves for some reason, but little else.
“The need increased again by about 10 per cent,” he said. “That’s been going on since Christmas. Donations are down by a significant amount as well.”
They’re specifically in need of cereal, canned meats and fish, meal helps and general foodstuffs — excluding soup.
They’re planning a Christmas in July push for donations on July 8 and 9, with a goal of raising $15,000 to feed the hungry.
“We’ll be out in the community with our famous kettles and a cheery smile on those two days,” he said.
Before that they’ll be looking for additional kettle volunteers.
