Vancouver Giants defenceman Wes Vannieuwenhuizen was handed a seven game suspension on Monday for a check from behind on Bruins forward Robin Soudek.
Vannieuwenhuizen drove Soudek into the boards during a Remembrance Day matinee at Prospera Centre, with a hit that that could have caused far more damage than it did.
As it is, Soudek escaped with a sore neck and mild concussion that will keep him out for at least another two games.
Vannieuwenhuizen's suspension is the second longest in league history.
